Animal Advocate

My teaching, research, and public talks emphasize the interconnection between human and animal liberation. I advocate a decolonial and contextual veganism grounded in recognition of the sacred spark within every living being.

A New Lens on Veganism

The popular discourse on veganism frames it as the purview of animal-rights “extremists” or a passing health fad. The reality, however, is that veganism is a global, multi-cultural movement to resist the desecration of animals, people, and Earth.

Some ways that animal and human oppression are connected:

  • Industrial animal agriculture is traumatic for slaughterhouse workers, who may suffer from PITS: Perpetration-Induced Traumatic Syndrome.

  • The expansion of meat consumption is fueling the destruction of rainforests and destroying Indigenous peoples’ lands.

  • The control and commodification of animals’ reproductive systems has supported similar exploitation of women’s bodies.

  • An animal-centered diet is leading to devastating health consequences for diverse peoples.
